Mary Meachum Crossing
A visit to the Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing on the riverfront north of downtown, where nine enslaved St. Louisans attempted to escape to freedom. The site on the riverfront trail is now part of the National Park Services Underground Railroad Network to Freedom.

This Week in History
On February 21, 1891, Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman was buried in St. Louis’s Calvary Cemetery. Thousands line the streets and marched in the funeral procession in what was called “the greatest funeral pageant ever seen in the West.”
