We are Public Media. Unlike commercial media, we exist to serve the public good. We exist to serve YOU.
What does that mean exactly?
Public media is a system of more than 1,500 local television and radio stations, which reach 99% of the American public with free and trusted arts, education, news, and children’s programming. We also play a crucial role in public safety as backbone for the emergency alert broadcast system.
Nine PBS is a PBS member station—a large network of 336 independently operated stations across the country. We receive 13% of our funding from the federal government, while the majority of our funding—86%—comes from viewers like you! That enables us to create programs and services specifically for the St. Louis region, while also providing your favorite national programs like Masterpiece, Nature, and PBS News Hour.
