From the blues to hip-hop, Black Americans have been the driving force behind innovative music for more than a century. Musical styles come and go, but one sound that has been a constant source of strength, courage, and wisdom on any given Sunday: the Gospel.

In addition to musical performances, the series explores the evolution of preaching styles over time and the impact of class, gender, cultural innovations, and consumer technologies in shaping the development of gospel music since its conception.

A new monthly series about the chess scene in St. Louis premieres in January and new seasons of All Creatures Great and Small and Miss Scarlet and the Duke, and a new series, Funny Woman, debut Sunday nights in January.
