A New Season of Teaching in Room 9 for At-Home Learners

Email share

St. Louis, MO—January 10, 2022—Season 6 of Teaching in Room 9 kicks off Monday, January 17, on Nine PBS at 11:30 am with all-new episodes focused on school readiness. In response to rising COVID cases in kids and to help parents with at-home learning, Nine PBS is also adding a second hour of Teaching in Room 9.

Teaching in Room 9 began in March 2020 as a response to a call from the community to provide remote learning resources for the children not in school during the pandemic. The series broadcasts 30-minute lessons led by teachers from Missouri and Illinois on Nine PBS, Monday through Friday, and streams on Nine PBS’s YouTube channel, which is organized by grade level.

Like few other programs on the air for children, Teaching in Room 9 is free and reflects the full diversity of educators across the region. “It truly meant a lot for my son and community to see someone who looks like us read a book about us. I appreciate the excitement you portrayed and how you continue to keep viewers engaged each time,” says parent Edmonn Maul.

Lessons in literacy, math, science, and related arts are guided by Missouri state standards and learning objectives that were created specifically for Teaching in Room 9. The first-hour early-learner classrooms cover reading, math, related arts, and science on Fridays. The second hour, for first through third graders, gives students the best of previously aired lessons in reading, math, and science, from 12:30–1:30 pm.

Local funding for Teaching in Room 9 is provided by Bank of America, Berges Family Foundation, Boeing, Dana Brown Charitable Trust, Emerson, James S. McDonnell Family Foundation, Moneta, Pershing Charitable Trust, STEMpact, and Saint Louis Art Museum.
